Keywords:Innovative energy solutions in the field of metallurgy, ceramics

Company Profile

ESA PYRONICS INTERNATIONAL designs and manufactures innovative combustion solutions, technologies, products. Main goals are energy recovery, lower emissions, higher safety and productivity. These same goals are performed directly with end users (usually in revamping projects) or indirectly by supplying furnace manufactures or engineering companies.
Industries served are steel and non steel metallurgy, ceramic, incineration, bakery, glass, oil and chemical.
The Company boasts the biggest in Europe (at private level) test center on combustion technology with 8 furnaces up to 4MW, fixed /portable flue analyzers, CFD software, 3D modeling and various instruments.
ESA is part of SIAD Group, 700 millions euro consolidated turnover Italian leader in technical gases.
ESA has facilities in Italy, Belgium, India and in China is now under development a stable presence.
  • Year of foundation: 1977
  • Number of employees: 45
  • Annual Turnover: 9 Million EUR

Innovative Solution/Technology

ESA manages a wide portfolio of cross-cutting technologies. i.e: for emissions’ reduction: staged and flameless combustion, flue gas recirculation. For energy recovery: recuperative, self recuperative and regenerative burners, pulse firing, off & bio & syngas utilization; fuel diversification: oxy fuel technologies, multifuel burners, clean use of oil. Ignition technologies and regulation technology with certified products.
Other Industry-specific technologies are: immerged combustion for hot dip galvanizing furnaces; multihead and flame turning oxy fuel burners for aluminium melting rotary furnaces; individual stoichiometry burners in gas fired tunnel furnaces bakery, innovative systems in galvannealing lines, specific products for ceramics.

Case Study

1. SSAB, Sweden revamp continuous annealing line from OIL to LPG
Goals: fuel saving, lower emissions, extend radiant tubes lifespan
Solution: Radiant Tube Staged burners Low NOx; EN746 & SIL3 compliant feeding lines and software
Benefits: Soot and SOx eliminated; 10% fuel save, NOx ppm: from 250 to 175

2. BHUSHAN STEEL, India
Goals: availability of low chalorific (800KCAL) blast furnace gas
Solution: BFG-AIR-Oxygen-LPG hybrid burners, feeding & enrichment lines and regulation software
Benefits: use of 9300Nm³/h Bfg previously flared in atmosphere

3. COGNE, Italy forging furnace (project got “white certificates” from Italian government)
Goals: revamp traditional cold air combustion plant
Solution: Regenerative burners in flameless mode
Benefits: 45% fuel saving; NOx: < 300 mg/Nm³, negligible CO

4. Marcegaglia, Italy annealing furnace
Goals: lower consumption and emission, increase production, extend radiant tube lifespan
Solution: self recuperative burners
Benefits: NOx ppm: from 300 to 80; soot elimination; 10% fuel save

5. Incineration furnaces (various projects)
Goals: incineration of wastes. Human/animal cremation
Solutions: multihead burners up to 32Mw; excess air, high velocity burners
Benefits: complete combustion. Low NOx levels and soot

6. Syngas, Biogas: customized burners for process and utilization

7. Ceramic Rolling furnaces (many projects)
Goals: fuel save
Solution: convert each fixed-flow air line to modulating system with ESA AR regulator
Benefits: fuel save up to 20%, negligible investment
