Company Profile

DP is an engineering company established in 1991 that develops studies and multidisciplinary projects in the field of environmental sustainability. The activities, carried out through specific assignments or integrated projects, include:
  • air quality monitoring and modelling
  • noise reduction technologies
  • noise quality index estimation for buildings and public spaces
  • soil management and remediation
  • research and technology transfer
  • environmental impact assessment studies design, supervision and testing of environmental mitigation measures
The company, which has experienced a steady growth with quite 600 projects developed, is today one of the most appreciated Italian companies in the sector and counts among its customers Public Institutions and Key Players in the markets of Infrastructure, Transports, Urban Development, Energy and Oil&Gas Industry. Thanks to its organizational structure, the Company is able to operate both in Italy and abroad, working for large companies and public and private institutions.
VDP provides support to realize integrated territorial actions that combine optimized solutions with the maximum level of environmental integration.
In particular the company is able to develop and provide to its Clients a comprehensive package of solution for noise reduction and protection; air quality improvement; soil analysis and remediation. The range of services includes monitoring of initial conditions, design of tailor-made solutions and the supply of final products in order to mitigate the environmental issues (e.g. noise barriers and noise absorption materials; air quality monitoring plan; air purification machineries; soil pollutants analysis and remediation techniques, etc.)
The main specialist units are composed by engineers, architects, geologists, naturalists-biologists, botanists-faunists, physicians, chemists, energy managers, designers, socio-economists. The professionals involved meet the various multidisciplinary needs of developing sectors, and brought to VDP extensive experience in many projects.
Year of foundation: 1991
Number of employees: 20
Annual Turnover: 1,450,000 EUR

Innovative Solution/Technology

VDP adopts state of the art technologies and instrumentation to develop environmental studies and monitoring activities. It is also in constant contact with software developers and technical suppliers in order to share visions and needs and to improve the level of service offered.
VDP is also engaged in a continuous research to offer the highest quality and technical level to its customers. It recently published a "Green Paper on Environmental Sustainability of Transport Infrastructure" that aims at continuously improving the sustainability of the works in the transport sector. The study embraces all nodal transport infrastructures and aims at maximizing the environmental sustainability of the projects, relating to energy consumption, CO2 and greenhouse gas emissions, waste generation, water consumption and production of waste. Another goal is to reduce, at the same time, the need of mitigation or compensation of environmental effects.
VDP team has also collaborated with Terna Rete Italia (Italian electrical power transmission system operator) for the Malta-Sicily Interconnector Project, a modern energy infrastructure to connect isolated EU countries in a sustainable way .The project has been presented in International Symposium and received the Award "Good Practice of the Year 2016", promoted by the Renewable Grid Initiative, a union of European NGOs which aims to develop a transparent and environmentally friendly energy network to enable the continued growth of renewable energy and the energy transition.
Environmental benefits of research activities and projects described above are tangible. Innovative projects improve quality of life and environmental conditions, contributing to “Better Environments, Better Lives” vision . Research and capacity building initiatives contributes to the development of environmental awareness of people and Governments.

Case Study

Development of anti-noise measures along highways
VDP received by an Italian Highway Management Company the assignment to fix noise issues for a very busy stretch of highway, characterized by surroundings areas plenty of residential buildings and schools.
The interventions have been dimensioned thanks to a detailed acoustic study: using a simulation software, noise levels have been verified and analysed respecting regulatory references thresholds on all receptors facing the highway. The project consisted in a total linear development of interventions of around 1.500 meters of noise barriers with a height varying from 3 to 6 meters.
The design and implementation of the intervention took into account safety and traffic regulations, analysing in detail their positioning. All technical aspects concerning both completed work, and its feasibility at construction site have also been considered, in particular through the drafting of a Safety and Coordination Plan.
The positioning of interventions has been identified through the engineering analysis of the geometric features of the barrier, the road visibility characteristics, the interferences resolution, the geotechnical features of foundation soil, the structural characteristics of the components that compose the entire barrier, such as the elements for the disposal of the platform waters.
The barriers have been developed according to their positioning: edge of the street surface, edge of the junction ramp, edge of the bridge, etc…
Noise-protection panels have been specifically developed for the site with a specific design, also considering other shields along the same highway. The anti-noise panels are mainly of a mixed type in concrete and light concrete blocks, with insertion of a PMMA portion; to minimize the visual impact on the receptors, the barrier has an aesthetic treatment of the concrete.
The project details, aims and results have been shared with local population through dissemination events to inform and obtain the approval of the civil society
