Montello S.p.A. is located in the homonymous municipality in Bergamo city (in the north of Italy) in an industrial area of around 450,000 m², 120,000 of which are indoors, and has a staff of 650. It is ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 18001 and ISO 50001 certified and operates in the two following business activities:

1. Treatment, recovery and recycling of organic waste, including the organic fraction of municipal solid waste (MSW) from separate waste collection, with a treatment capacity of about 600,000 tons/year of waste.

The adopted process provides a first phase of anaerobic treatment that generates biogas producing:

- electricity and heat from renewable sources through cogeneration engines;

- biomethane destined for automotive through an upgrading process, with recovery of carbon dioxide (CO₂) to be reused in production cycles including food;

and an aerobic composting phase of digested matter’s with production of high quality organic fertilizer.

In summary, 90% of organic waste is recovered and recycled. The remaining 10%, unwanted in these processes, is recovered as Secondary Solid Fuel (SSF) for cement plants.

2. Sorting, recovery and recycling of 200,000 tons/year of post-consumer plastic packaging waste from separate waste collection. The integrated process first separates the different kinds of plastic by type of polymer (PET bottles, HDPE bottles, mixed polyolefin containers,...) and color (colorless, blue and mixed colored PET) recovering them in secondary raw materials in the form of PET flakes, HDPE granules, LDPE granules and MIXED POLYOLEFINIC granules, as well as in manufactured products such as dimpled sheet GEOMONT®, used in construction industry.

In summary, 75% of treated plastic waste is recovered and recycled in secondary raw materials and/or finished products. The remaining 25%, unsuitable for recycling, is recovered in the production of Secondary Solid Fuels (SSF) for cement plants.

 

In summary, it is a recovering and recycling with an “around zero” residual waste.

The environmental benefits achieved by both activities can be quantified in terms of 390,000 tons equivalent of CO₂ saved.

1。有机废物的处理、回收及循环再造，包括废物收集的都市固体废物的有机部分，处理能力约为60万吨/年。
所采用的过程提供了产生沼气的厌氧处理的第一阶段:
-可再生能源的电力和热能通过热电联产发动机;
-通过升级过程，将生物柴油运往汽车，回收二氧化碳(CO2)，在包括食品在内的生产周期中重复使用;
并以优质有机肥料的生产为原料，进行了好氧堆肥阶段。
总之，90%的有机废物被回收再利用。剩余的10%在这些过程中不需要，作为固体燃料(SSF)被回收用于水泥厂。

2。回收和回收20万吨/年的后消费塑料包装废料，从单独的废物收集。集成过程首先区分不同种类的塑料类型的聚合物(PET瓶,HDPE瓶,聚烯烃混合容器、…)和颜色(无色、蓝色和混合颜色的PET)恢复他们在二级原材料的形式PET薄片,HDPE颗粒,低密度聚乙烯颗粒和混合POLYOLEFINIC颗粒,以及生产的产品,如带酒窝的表GEOMONT®,用于建筑业。
